Material recycling

Drill rods and drill pipe,
graded by alloy and attachments.

A rod string that comes off a rig still has recoverable value. Drill Bits Recyclers buys drill rods, drill pipe, subs, adaptors, couplings and RC gear from sites across WA, then grades each load by alloy and attached components before pricing.

Why specialty drill rod recycling

Grade every part of the rod string
properly.

Drill rods often arrive as mixed assemblies: alloy steel bodies, threaded ends, subs, couplings and carbide-tipped components. We separate those parts before pricing instead of averaging the whole load as steel.

What affects the price:

  • Rod body alloy grade
  • Subs, adaptors and couplings
  • Attached carbide or hardfacing
  • Mud, grease and packed material

The rod body is priced against the relevant alloy steel reference. Carbide components are separated and priced against the tungsten reference. Send photos and a rough count for an assessment.

Contamination doesn’t sink the whole load. Mud, grease or packed material inside a rod string is weighed and deducted from the gross figure rather than used as a reason to price everything as scrap steel, so a rod string with a known amount of packed material still gets a fair read on the alloy body underneath.

Payment goes out by EFT once grading is confirmed, and most settlement-ready loads are paid the same day. A quotation for a rod string states its own expiry, since the alloy steel and tungsten references it’s built on shift with the market.

Our process

How drill rods move from your site
to payment.

Each load is logged with a reference number, separated by component and graded by material. Mud and other non-payable material are recorded before payment, and the itemised report shows the breakdown.

Send a photo, then it's logged on arrival

A phone photo of what you've got is enough to start. It's booked in with a reference number when it arrives.

Step 1
Rods, subs, adaptors and couplings are separated and sorted

Each component is moved into its own material stream before grading.

Step 2
Each component is graded on its own terms

Rod bodies are checked for alloy, while carbide parts and non-payable material are recorded separately.

Step 3
Payment is processed with an itemised report

Once grading is confirmed, payment is arranged and the report shows the component breakdown.

Our commitments

Why work with
Drill Bits Recyclers.

Whether it’s one rod string off a rebuild or a full yard clean-out, these commitments hold on every job.

01
Weighed and logged
Every load is booked in on arrival with a reference number before it's sorted.
02
Graded by component
Rod bodies, subs, adaptors and couplings are assessed separately.
03
Paid without chasing invoices
You get an itemised report and payment once grading is signed off, no invoice back and forth.
04
Traceable
Every job has a paper trail from arrival through to the material's final destination.
