Stainless steel scrap,
graded by type and nickel content.

304, 316 and other stainless grades: offcuts, tank and vessel scrap, fabrication drops and worn fittings. Drill Bits Recyclers buys stainless steel scrap from WA workshops and grades each load by type and nickel content.

Why specialist sorting

What sets a stainless steel
scrap price.

Stainless steel is graded before pricing. A mixed load of 304, 316 and attached mild steel should not be priced as one generic stainless category.

What affects the price:

  • Stainless grade, including 304 or 316
  • Nickel and molybdenum content
  • Mild-steel fittings and coatings
  • Quantity and form

Pricing follows the current market price for nickel and the applicable stainless surcharge. Send photos and a rough weight for an assessment.

Mild-steel fittings, coatings or other non-stainless material on a load are weighed and deducted from the gross figure rather than used to price the whole batch as one generic grade. Any weight that doesn’t qualify as stainless is recorded separately so the deduction is clear on the report. A quotation for stainless scrap carries its own expiry, since the nickel price and stainless surcharge behind it move with the market.

Settlement is by EFT after grading, and a load that is ready to settle is normally paid the same day. The yard runs on appointments, so ring ahead if you’d like to see a stainless load graded before sending yours.

A photo of what you’ve got is enough to start. We’ll come back with an assessment, and if you’re also working with nickel alloys such as Inconel, our nickel alloys page covers that material separately.
